Donny Finley
Artist's Statement/Quote
Donny Finley was raised in Millerville, Alabama and first became known for painting scenes from the rural South. Throughout his 30 years as an artist he's broadened the scope of his subject matter as well as the painting techniques and mediums he uses. Finley shows his versatility in technique in his paintings from softer, more impressionistic scenes to tighter, more literal images. He provides a perspective on golf that all players can relate to.
His impressive talent has been awarded in numerous national juried exhibitions. He has received more than 70 awards during his career. His work has been recognized by the American Watercolor Society, the National Academy of Design, and the National Watercolor Society. He is an elected signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and Finley is listed in Who's Who in American Art.
Several books feature Finley’s paintings, the most recent is a limited edition volume by PGA Tour Pro and 2006 Ryder Cup Chairman Tom Lehman titled, "A Passion for the Game."
Awards/Special Exhibits
Included in the more than 70 awards Finley has won are the Larry Quackenbush Memorial Award for the American Watercolor Society in New York, the Walter Briggs Memorial Award from the National Academy of Design in New York, the Strathmore Award from the National Watercolor in California, and the Charlotte Livingston Award from the Salmagundi Club in New York.
