Although Richard Plasschaerts art was well known in
the Midwest, his career attained national stature when his entry, "Two Mallards in
Flight," was selected as the 1980-81 Federal Duck Stamp design. With this honor he
officially joined the ranks of Americas premier wildlife artists. He recalls with a
smile, "It took me 20 years to become an overnight success!" This comment would
be a surprise to the many collectors of his art who already appreciate his attention to
subject details and warm, authentic landscapes.
Besides winning the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp
Competition, Plasschaert has created a wide variety of other state and conservation group
stamp designs.
